Description
The kinetic energy of the wind comes from solar radiation in the atmosphere and on the surface of the earth. The heated air masses rise into the atmosphere and, in so doing, create voids immediately filled by the cold air masses. The winds are thus generated by differences in temperature and pressure in the atmosphere.
This phenomenon is observed at different scales: the warming of a given territory explains the local winds, while the difference between the temperature of the poles and that of the equator explains the prevailing winds on a planetary scale.
